It can be difficult from such people to control heartburns without the usage of prescription medicines. There are many alternatives to an antacid that can help you in preventing a heartburn altogether.
For those suffering permanently from heartburns, nothing seems to work well, not even the regular prescription medicines, but some tips stated here will definitely help to keep your heatburns under control.
What are the precautions you need to take?
Acetic and spicy foods, preferred by most, are the main causes of heartburns. Foods definitely have a profound impact on you health and go a long way in causing heartburns. Cutting down on such foods partially or completely can work wonders for you and help you in treating your heartburns to a good extent.
Pizzas, sausages and juices containing lemon, oranges and other acetic food stuff should be avoided and stopped totally, if possible. This is a tough task and may seem impossible at times. There are some tips through which you can enjoy you favorite foods without having to carry antacid along with you. For example, try limiting the use of pepperoni in your pizza and eat a simple cheese pizza itself. You can also let off the spice from your chicken wings by taking teriyaki chicken instead of the normal BBQ chicken; you can also take out the salsa from your tacos and do with apples and grapes instead of oranges and lemons. These small steps will really go a long way in controlling your heatburn problem.
Drinking a lot of water before you take your meal and popping in an antacid may help you in preventing heartburns to a great extent, but make sure that if the heatburn sets in even after you have taken all the precautions, not to drink water. Drinking water after heartburn has set in may result in drastically aggravating the situation. You should rather rely on smoother stuff such as milk in such a situation.
Ultimately, the bottom line is that the main cause of heartburns lies in the food we eat and we should, at any cost try to eliminate or at least lessen the intake of such foods in order to curtail heartburns and heartburn symptoms as hard as you can.
